Emmy was born and raised in Alpine, Utah. She began dancing at age three. Throughout her childhood and youth she studied modern dance, ballet, tap, and jazz. By the time she entered Jr. High, she knew that she wanted to be a dance educator.
She was a member of and choreographer for the Mountain Ridge Junior High School Dance Company, Lone Peak High School Dance Company, was the Utah State Sterling Scholar in Dance, and earned a scholarship to BYU, where she studied Modern Dance. She was privileged to be a member of the modern performing company, The Dancers’ Company. She danced in pieces by renowned choreographers like Bill T. Jones, Paul Taylor, and Caroline Prohasky.
After graduating, Emmy taught at BYU for two years. She loved teaching in the college environment, so she went on to get a Master's Degree in Dance from the University of Utah. She performed with PDC and studied under influential dance professionals such as Stephen Koestler, Eric Handman, Tandy Beal, Kim Strunk, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Gabri Christa, Keith Johnson, Stephen Koplowitz, Nicholas Lechter, Lar Lubovich Dancers, Momix Dancers, and many others. She taught in the dance program at the University of Utah for three years.
After becoming a mom, Emmy's passion for teaching dance shifted from adults to children. She has been teaching at Tanya’s Dance and Fitness Studio for three years and is excited to now be teaching at Just Dance Arts Academy.
